In the orchid family, Dendrobium orchids are perhaps some of the most well liked orchid plants at the retail level. Dendrobium is, in horticulture, a genus of tropical orchids. There are approximately 1,200 species of orchid plants in the Dendrobium genus.
Dendrobium orchid plants are “air plants” and can efficiently hold water in their pseudopods. A single orchid plant can have hundreds of white orchid flowers with purple pale edgings and maroon center covering. Dendrobium orchids produce flowers in different colors like yellow (yellow teatree orchid), pink (pink rock orchid) and blue (sepik blue orchid).
If you’re planning to grow several species of Dendrobium orchids, not just a few, it may be a good idea to build an orchid nursery, as putting your orchids with other plants would just expose your orchids to many plant diseases that you’ll find hard to avoid. By putting your orchid in an orchid nursery, you can at least control or prevent diseases and pests from destroying you orchid plants.
A simple way you can care for your Dendrobium orchids is to wipe the orchid leaves with soapy and warm wet cloth. This way you can get rid of insects that are taking the nutrients your orchids are supposed to be getting. Keep in mind that when orchids are exposed to diseases and pests, the production of orchid seeds is hampered.
Also be aware that unlike native orchids that aren’t too sensitive, Dendrobium orchids may be easily harmed by pesticides. Dendrobium orchid plants are not like other orchids that may grow healthily in places with the presence of harmful chemicals.
If you’re a first time grower of Dendrobium orchids, you may feel that growing and caring for these orchids is tedious. However, once you see these orchids start to produce beautiful orchid flowers, you’ll realize all the hard work you’ve put into taking care of your orchid plants has been well worth it.
