A successful room is functional, expresses a mood, and exhibits a sense of harmony. This simple 3 step method is the secret to every interior ever designed. The easy chairs are inviting, pull the ottoman over, put your feet up, and start into your favorite authors new novel on a stormy winter’s afternoon, in the cozy room you have designed.

The mood of this room is clearly one of relaxation. It’s formal enough for entertaining because it’s so well-designed, but the feeling is one of luxurious relaxation. The casual aspect of the mood is enhanced by the slightly messy fronds in the vases, which bring in an air of the wild outdoors and prevent the room from feeling stuffy or overdone. The open curtains, which are barely noticeable at first glance, add to this airy feeling, letting in loads of natural light.

By including fabrics, paints, furnishings, and knick knacks that compliment each other, everything in this room will work in harmony. Using the upholstered fabric from the chairs and incorporating it into the fabric used on the table and for the curtains, and accenting it with a plain rug will help to prevent floral patterns from becoming overwhelming. This is a room that would give its visitors the relaxed feeling of an early summer’s afternoon, at any time of the year.
