Tips for preparing your home for sale!
Whether you are fixing up your home for yourself or to sell it, you want to to ensure that your investment is worthwhile and something you can handle doing yourself. Prospective buyers can be very critical when viewing houses, everyone wants to get the best deal possible.
There are a few things that you can do to make big improvements fairly easily. Whether they’re inside or out, the walls of your home make up a large surface area. The slightest build up of dirt, discoloring or peeling of paint can leave a poor first impression. Walls can become extremely dirty behind and around furniture, outlines of dirt often form around the back of couches. If washing the walls isn’t enough and they need a little more attention than a bucket and sponge, the next logical step is to paint. Choosing a paint colour can be the hardest part of painting a room. A good rule of thumb in this situation is to stick to lighter, neutral colours. Try whites and ivories to give the room a brighter, more spatial feel. While you are at it, do a spot check of all your door frames and light switch covers. These areas are prone to chipping and discoloring from being touched and bumped.
Mildew loves to grow in damp places such as bathrooms and kitchens, and it’s amazing what a difference it can make to the overall appearance of your home. Mildew is normally going to be found around sinks, tile, and grout.
Typically the bathroom is going to be the most prone to mildew. Cleaning the grout from a discolored grey to a dashing white can create a sense of cleanliness and make it look like ti got a new finish. Vinegar is the best household solution for cleaning and preventing mold and mildew.
Dirt trails, and stains in carpet can be removed by most generic carpet cleaners. The easiest method of cleaning a carpet is by using dry detergent which simply needs to be applied and vacuumed up later. For more difficult stains or cigarette burns which cannot be cleaned, professionals can repair small patches which in the long run are much cheaper than replacing the entire carpet. Small repairs can make a huge difference in the overall appearance of your home.
Windows can be easily cleaned inside and out with vinegar or lemon juice. Using vinegar and lemon juice will help to remove streaks and smudges. Newspaper is another great tool for cleaning windows. Any entrances or pathways outside should be kept free and clear of foilage and trash.
