It seems as if everyone is planning and building outdoor kitchens for backyard grilling these days. Whichever part of the country you live in, no matter the weather, it is a treat to be able to cook, dine and entertain outdoors. Facing the enormity of this type of kitchen project can be daunting, but it doesn’t have to be if you follow some basic outdoor kitchen guidelines.
The first three steps are to plan, plan, and plan some more. Sit down and discuss every aspect of the new outdoor kitchen. Make drawings of your ideas and make lists and get prices of what you’ll need. Besides the backyard grill, smokers and BBQ pits, will you want running water and refrigeration outside? Will there be a bar area or dining tables? How about a fire pit and conversation area? What building materials do you prefer; wood, metal or stone?
Decide where the kitchen should be located in the backyard. Too far away from the house will not be practical. It would be very unpleasant to have to make long trips back and forth while carrying groceries, utensils, dishware and other needed items. An ideal location would be just outside of your indoor kitchen where the current kitchen window can be made to open in order to pass items back and forth.
The main feature of an outdoor kitchenis the backyard grill. It is recommended to purchase a backyard grill that has enough side burners. You will want to be able to boil, sauté, fry and poach as well as grill. An oven is also highly recommended. After all, it was our dislike of using an indoor oven during the heat of the summer that outdoor kitchens came about in the first place.
For some of the finest, and the largest selections in backyard grilling supplies and accessories, Texas Pit Crafters can’t be beat. They design, engineer and manufacture outdoor grilling products of the highest quality ranging from gas grills to smokers and BBQ pits to full outdoor kitchens.
