It must happen quite often if there is a whole industry that specializes in correcting DIY mistakes. DIY of course, stands for “do it yourself” and it is all the rage. DIY is nothing new. People have made their own repairs, built their own homes and decorated them all on their own for centuries. But now there are magazines, books, television shows and entire TV networks dedicated to DIY tips, , and DIY plans. They have made trendy this whole idea of novices doing things for themselves.

Even the DIY magazines and TV networks are starting to become aware of the number of and unfinished DIY projects, because even they are starting to write articles and devote whole programming to DIY mistakes.

A DIY mistake like using the wrong color in a faux wall treatment may be annoying and time consuming to re-do, but failing to turn the water main off before we disconnect the pipes under our sink can be a much bigger concern.

Many of the most costly DIY mistakes are usually caused when “DIYers” cut corners to save a little time or money. By doing home repairs and remodels yourself, you are already saving money compared with hiring a professional to do them. But that doesn’t mean that all DIY projects aren’t going to cost you a lot of money. Remodeling a bathroom or kitchen is expensive, even when you do it yourself.

Hire a professional when you deal with aspects of a job that you are not familiar with. If you know nothing about electrical wiring, do not attempt to run electricity into a shed or treehouse yourself. Your and your family’s safety is more important than the few hundred dollars it may cost you. Don’t let a DIY mistake endanger anyone’s life.
