Knowing when to fertilize your lawn can make all the difference between having a lush, green lawn and a mediocre one. Caring for your lawn doesn’t have to take a lot of effort. And the results are well worth it when you know when to fertilize your lawn.
The key to a beautiful lawn is keeping in mind the basic lawn care calendar. Our lawns have different requirements depending on what season it is. Most types of grasses need to be fertilized when they are in their growing seasons. Some lawns that are considered cool climate lawns have their growing seasons in the spring and fall. While warm climate lawns do the bulk of their growing in the summer months.
Many lawns go dormant in the winter and therefore do not need a lot of fertilizer and in some parts of the country, winter lawns are covered with several feet of snow and ice. Therefore, most lawns can benefit from fertilizing right after the winter dormant time, usually in the spring and an application in the summer, and again in the fall. It is best if after fertilizing the lawn gets the benefit of a couple of good rains or a thorough watering in order to help the fertilizer dissolve into the soil because if a fertilizersits on top of the grass in hot, dry conditions, it can burn your lawn.
By following a natural lawn care calendar you will know when to fertilize your lawn and you can have the most beautiful lawn in the whole neighborhood.
